The bulimic Nerviosa

Bulimia or bulimia nervosa is a mental disorder related to food. "This disease is more common in women than in men although today is a disease that occurs in both sexes.Its essential characteristic is that the person has episodes of binge eating, followed by a great sense of guilt and a sense of anguish and loss of mental control. Usually alternate with periods of fasting or very low food intake, but soon returned to have episodes of binge compulsivas.Un intake is to eat in less than two hours an amount of food far superior to most individuals eat.Individuals with this disorder feel very ashamed of their behavior and try to hide the symptoms. The binge eating is done in secret or covertly as possible. The episodes are planned in advance and are characterized (though not always) by a rapid intake of food.Another essential feature of this disorder are inappropriate compensatory behavior to prevent weight gain. Many individuals use various means to try to compensate for binge eating: the most common is self-induced vomiting. This method of purging (cyclical patterns of overeating and purging) use it for 80-90 percent of patients who visited medical centers for treatment. The immediate effects of vomiting consist of the immediate disappearance of physical discomfort and decreased fear of gaining weight. Other purging behaviors include excessive use of laxatives and diuretics, enemas, performing intense physical exercise and fasting.
